PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL & SOFTBALL GLOVE CLEANING & CONDITIONING

WHAT DOES PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL GLOVE CLEANING AND CONDITIONING INCLUDE?

A proper glove cleaning goes far beyond wiping down the surface. Our process removes built-up dirt, sweat, and grime from the leather, allows the glove to dry properly, and replenishes moisture with professional-grade conditioner to help restore the leather’s feel and flexibility.

SURFACE PREPARATION

We begin by thoroughly wiping down the glove with microfiber towels to remove loose dirt and debris before the deeper cleaning process begins.

DEEP LEATHER CLEANING

Professional-grade leather cleaner is worked into the glove using natural-bristle brushes to lift ground-in dirt, sweat, oils, and grime from the leather. Heavily soiled areas are cleaned again as needed.

PATCHES & DETAIL CLEANING

Patches, logos, seams, and hard-to-reach areas receive additional attention using firmer detailing brushes to remove buildup and bring back as much of their original appearance as possible.

CONTROLLED DRYING & CONDITIONING

After cleaning, the glove is placed on a drying rack with circulating air to safely remove excess moisture without using damaging heat. Once dry, professional-grade conditioner is worked into the leather in multiple applications as needed to replenish moisture, softness, and flexibility.

FINAL SHAPING & LACE CHECK

Once conditioning is complete, we work the pocket with a ball to help maintain the glove’s shape and feel. We also check and tighten loose laces throughout the web, fingers, and other areas as needed.

BROKEN IN — NOT BROKEN DOWN

Cleaning and conditioning serve two different purposes. A glove needs both to receive proper care.

Cleaning removes the dirt, sweat, oils, and grime that build up in the leather through regular use. Conditioning comes afterward to replenish moisture and help keep the leather soft, flexible, and protected.

Simply adding conditioner over a dirty glove can trap buildup in the leather. That’s why Hughes Glove Works cleans the glove thoroughly before applying conditioner.

EVERY GLOVE NEEDS PROPER LEATHER CARE

Dirt, sweat, dust, and moisture build up on a glove throughout the season. Regular cleaning and conditioning can help keep the leather flexible, maintain the glove’s feel, and extend its usable life. How often a glove needs attention depends on how frequently it’s used and the conditions it plays in.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

You don’t have to wait until your glove looks dirty. Periodic cleaning removes buildup before it becomes heavily worked into the leather, while conditioning helps replenish moisture as the glove ages.

HEAVY USE & TOURNAMENT PLAY

Gloves used several days a week are exposed to more dirt, sweat, dust, and changing field conditions. Regular glove care can help prevent that buildup from being neglected season after season.

END-OF-SEASON CARE

A complete cleaning and conditioning before storing your glove helps remove the season’s accumulated dirt and grime while leaving the leather properly conditioned during the offseason.

MORE THAN JUST WIPING DOWN A GLOVE

Professional glove cleaning requires more than a towel and some conditioner. Different areas of a glove collect different types of dirt, sweat, oils, and buildup, and properly cleaning the leather means using the right tools and techniques without unnecessarily damaging or over-saturating it.

Hughes Glove Works uses professional-grade and shop-tested leather cleaners and conditioners, microfiber towels, natural-bristle brushes, detailing brushes, and controlled air drying to thoroughly clean and condition each glove.
